Individual Program Plans (IPPs – aka IEPs or ISPs) are intended to be working documents that evolve throughout the year as students grow their skills, but oftentimes they are prepared in September and only reviewed when required throughout the year. This session will explore strategies that teachers can use to ensure that their IPPs are central to their planning for student learning across subject areas. We will talk about basic features of an inclusive classroom, as well as some ways that the IPP may inform assessment practices.

Charlie Kraig

Charlie is an educational consultant for Learning Network Educational Services. Experience as a classroom teacher (Gr 112), school-based coordinator (LA/SS and Inclusive Education), and vice principal (K-8 school), helps her craft unique professional learning opportunities for educators. Important in the work we do as designers of professional learning is using the same teaching strategies and tools that teachers can use in their classrooms while honoring them as competent adult learners. Charlie is a Learning Transfer Endorsed Educator as well as the Regional Network Chair of @WomenEdAlberta (part of the global #WomenEd network supporting and encouraging women in formal and informal leadership positions). She is passionate about instructional leadership and improving teacher practice for all learners’ benefit.

April Prescott

April Prescott is a Certified Canadian Counsellor whose work focuses on children and youth in care across Northern Alberta. Previously, she was the Inclusive Education Coordinator for Aboriginal Head Start in Edmonton for 7 years, a teacher in a PUF program for 10 years, and 5 years as an Educational Assistant across K-12. April also provides educational consultation with on-reserve schools in remote locations in Alberta. Her areas of expertise within the APLC are early learning, mental health, and inclusion. When not working, she enjoys training her dog, Holly, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or volunteering with the Edmonton Rugby Union.

Tanya Yungwirth

Tanya began her career as a Rehabilitation Specialist working with adults with special needs to find competitive employment in the workforce. This experience inspired her to return to university to pursue a career as a special education teacher. She obtained a Bachelor of Education and a Post Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education from the University of Sask. She supported programming for students with special needs for 10 years as a Learning Support Teacher. Tanya now works in Central Office as an Educational Programmer in the Grande Prairie Public School Division. She works with 7 schools to support student learning, and staff professional development and training.
