Grade Levels

Grades 4 - 6

Morphology is explicitly mentioned in the new English Language Arts and Literature outcomes in grades 4-6. Get a head start on building your foundational knowledge for the implementation of this curriculum in September 2023. This series will start at the very beginning and go a little deeper each time so that you can explore morphology with your students confidently. Sessions will offer both knowledge and classroom activities that you can use with your students. All sessions will be recorded and shared with registered participants.

Session One - February 28 4-5PM MST
What is morphology and how might it influence how we teach spelling to our students?

Session Two - March 14 4-5PM MST
How do we equip students to hypothesize a word sum?

Session Three - March 28 4-5PM MST
Assimilated prefixes and connecting vowel letters – what is this and how do we teach it?

Session Four - April 4 4-5PM MST
How do we hypothesize a word’s base? What tools can help us do this work?

Session Five - April 18 4-5PM MST
How can we use student writing samples to identify the types of spelling errors and then plan our spelling instruction?

This learning opportunity is being offered through a grant from Alberta Education.
